Selected Response Items
This section discusses different item formats that may be used in developing selected response items. It provides examples of each item format, describes the benefits and drawbacks of each, and provides guidelines to follow when constructing items.
Selected response items are items that require students to respond to a prompt by selecting an appropriate response, usually from answers that are provided. Typically, such items are used for collecting information in a short timeframe, such as a class session.
Selected response item formats may be scored using an answer key.
